Newcastle United set to 'pivot' to Chelsea pair as Oliver Glasner confirms Marc Guehi transfer decision
Newcastle United are said to be pushing for deals involving Chelsea men after missing out on Marc Guehi.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Marc Guehi will not be joining Newcastle United this summer despite multiple bids. Guehi’s situation threatened to become the story of transfer deadline day with the Magpies struggling to get a bid accepted by the Eagles.

Guehi attracted bid worth North of £65million from Newcastle, according to reports, but Palace stood firm by their valuation of around £70million. Newcastle were expected to make more late pushes to land the England centre-back before Friday night’s 11pm deadline, but the case is now closed.
Palace boss Glasner has confirmed that Guehi will be staying put, saying in his pre-match press conference on Friday: “Yes I can confirm. But I was never really in doubt. Congratulations to our owners because they didn't give in.
"Congrats to Crystal Palace, to the chairman, to the owners that they didn't give in especially after the transfer of Joachim Andersen it was very important that Marc stays. He always told me he is not pushing to leave Crystal Palace and for me that is the most important thing. Thank you to Marc, he was always open with me. All the rumours didn't influence his performances. It was important Marc stays. We were always very close and his professionalism. He was never pushing to leave Crystal Palace.
"That is important for me that they like playing for Crystal Palace. Marc told me and what a fantastic character he is. He is a Crystal Palace player and stays our captain."
Could Newcastle circle back around for Chalobah?
Chelsea man Trevoh Chalobah is frantically searching for a new club on transfer deadline day after being deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca.
According to Ben Jacobs via Give Me Sport, Chalobah could be an option for Newcastle, along with Chelsea man Axel Disasi, saying: "And there is even an outside chance, even though it is Disasi that's being spoken of and even though it is Crystal Palace that are more looking at Trevoh Chalobah at this stage, there's an outside chance that Newcastle pivot to Chalobah in the window as well. Simply because if they lose out on Guehi, and with a fear - despite what Eddie Howe says - that Kieran Trippier is unhappy.”
With few centre-backs on the market, Chalobah could be one of the few options available to Newcastle on deadline day, along with another Chelsea man in Disasi and Liverpool wantaway Joe Gomez. Chalobah has a reported asking price of £35million, while the Blues would likely want to reclaim the £37.8million they paid for Disasi.
