Chelsea could get an opportunity to offload another young player for a significant fee as they continue to balance Profit and Sustainability rules with big spending. The Blues have spent huge amounts of money over recent years, with the current ownership group taking a controversial approach to recruitment.

Hide AdThere were departures aplenty over the summer with Chelsea needing to balance the books and offset some of that big spending. The likes of Ian Maatsen, Omari Hutchinson, Conor Gallagher and Romelu Lukaku were sold, while Lewis Hall completed a permanent move to Newcastle United for a fee believed to be worth around £28million.
The beauty offloading players like Maatsen, Hutchinson, Hall and and Gallagher is that the deals are reported as ‘pure profit’ from a Profit and Sustainability standpoint, due to the fact the players came through the academy system. The current financial rules have started a trend of clubs offloading and essentially exchanging club talents for that reason.
It’s unclear to what extent Chelsea will continue to offload young talents, and much will likely depend on how their spending efforts evolve over the coming years. Another player the Blues might be able to land a big profit from is Josh Acheampong, who is said to be attracting attention from Newcastle, who recently bought Hall from the Blues.

Acheampong has one league appearance for the Blues, and he will naturally struggle to land first-team football unless a loan deal can be arranged. If Chelsea were to consider a permanent sale, they would likely demand another big fee from Newcastle, particularly given a deal would involve selling to a rival.
Maresca on Acheampong
Acheampong travelled with Chelsea to the USA in the summer, and after his performance against Wrexham in a friendly, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said: “I was happy with Tyrique [George] and with Josh [Acheampong], I thought they both did very well,” Chelsea’s head coach said when prompted for a little feedback on how he thought the Cobham kid had done.
“In these types of games, for them it was important to be brave, don’t be shy. It doesn’t matter if you make a mistake, that’s football. They both did very good. Tyrique missed a chance but then he created another one for himself. I really liked the way Josh showed himself with the ball, stepped in, was brave and showed personality. I am happy for both of them.”
