Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has confirmed defender Kieran Trippier is fine for the game against Chelsea even though he remained evasive when asked about the availability of forward Alexander Isak.

The Magpies are looking to bounce back from two defeats one in the Champions League against Dortmund and the other against Bournemouth but they have the longest injury list but their manager confirmed they were making progress on that front.

He admitted Fabian Schar and Trippier could be in line to play when Mauricio Pochettino's side come over.

He told the press ahead of the game: "Fabian [Schär] was more precautionary rather than any injury, we saw him yesterday – he seemed good.

"Miggy [Miguel Almiron] has worked really well since his hamstring. Kieran [Trippier] is fine, he has trained with us since his return from England. We will check on Sean [Longstaff] before tomorrow.

Our home form has been very strong – we have had some good results against some top sides.

"You look back at our last league game here against Arsenal, it was a very strong performance, full of discipline and quality. Another performance and atmosphere like that would be more than welcome. There is a determination to put the Bournemouth result to bed."

He however remained evasive when asked Alexander Isak, he said" I don't know and I don't want to give too much away."

Chelsea have looked bright in their last few games but have also have injury issues with the club confirming both Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia still not available.

They have also lost just once in their last seven games seven though they have not won in their last four visits to Newcastle.
