Chelsea have reached an agreement with England left back Ben Chilwell to sign a new two year deal that will see him earn £200,000-a-week wages.

The 26-year-old will immediately become one of the club’s highest earners, as reward for his fine form amid all the ups and downs at the club.

The new deal will keep Chilwell at Stamford Bridge until 2027 and puts to bed any lingering thoughts of joining Manchester City in the summer.

Pep Guardiola is widely reported to be a keen admirer of Chilwell and was ready to pounce on any uncertainty, but both Chelsea and the player’s representatives have now decided that continuing at Stamford Bridge is in the best interest of all parties involved.

Chilwell has shown great mental strength to come back from a knee injury that threatened to affect his form, he also cruelly missed the World Cup due to a hamstring problem, but has been one of the in-form Chelsea players since the turn of the year.

Behind the scenes, the former Leicester City defender is also highly-rated by most of his teammates and sources at Cobham say he’s an absolute joy to work with as a manager and a colleague.

At a time when the future of a lot of players is up in the air, Chelsea have shown trust and confidence in Chiwell and reassured him that despite the investment in Marc Cucurella, he still remains a key part of the new project now and in the future.

Champions League defining week

Chelsea are in Madrid for the first leg of their quarter-final tie against the holders and will hope that both midfielders Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante will be fit for the game. Kante is also in the process of signing a new deal, sources have told LondonWorld.com.

The French midfielder was rested at the weekend while Mason Mount who hasn’t been involved in a while has also travelled with the team.

Defender Thiago Silva has returned to training even though it would be a surprise to see him play a part given he’s been out for almost two months.
