Medical underway as Chelsea close in on eighth summer signing after agreeing seven-year deal
Chelsea have shonw they’ve got deep pockets again this summer as they look to strengthen their squad.
Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has arrived in the U.S. for his Chelsea medical ahead of completing a stunning £20 million deal to the Premier League giants. The 22-year-old will sign a seven-year deal after his health checks, LondonWorld can confirm.
He will become the third goalkeeper signed under Blueco ownership since they took over the club in May 2022, with Robert Sanchez arriving from Brighton for £25 million and Đorđe Petrovic arriving from the MLS for £14 million.
Last season, the 22-year-old was the undisputed number one for Villarreal, playing in all 38 league games, living up to his promise after being given his debut by Unai Emery just before he left for Aston Villa.
The goalkeeper is now expected to join Chelsea in pre-season, with manager Enzo Maresca expected to be delighted with the signing, having made it a point to have a ball-playing goalkeeper in his squad.
He will become the eighth summer signing, with Chelsea already agreeing deals for Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, Estêvão Willian, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, and Leicester City playmaker Estêvão Willian.
Estêvão is not expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025 when he turns 18, but this summer has been another one where Chelsea have been brave and openly shown that they have deep pockets.
A host of star players are, however, expected to leave, including academy graduate Conor Gallagher, who has a year left on his current deal and has been strongly linked to Atletico Madrid. Trevoh Chalobah, who also came through the ranks at Cobham, has been left in London despite having over three years on his deal.
Last season, the Blues finished sixth but missed out on Europa League football due to Manchester United defying the form book to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup at Wembley.
