Mauricio Pochettino says £30m Chelsea star will have to be 'consistent' to fulfil potential

Chelsea signed Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven on a seven and half year deal last year for £30million.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Noni Madueke will have to find consistency to be able to reach the very top in his career. Madueke has been key to Chelsea in the last few weeks. He won the penalty that turned the game around against Manchester United

He also started against Sheffield United and scored before the team regressed and ended up drawing 2-2 against the Premier League bottom side. This season Cole Palmer has been the star of the show but Noni has scored six goals in all competitions and assisted once with limited time.

Asked if he was finally turning things around, the Chelsea manager said it was tough to say even though he wants the England under-21 star to be consistent.

He told reporters: "The hope is always with talent like Noni, is to be consistent and playing in the team to show his quality. Always it's about finding the right balance of the team.

"When Palmer arrived and doing really well, sometimes you cannot play in the position. I hope [Noni] can grow and be an important player for.”

Chelsea injury deepen

The injury situation at Chelsea has deepened again with Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi now included in the injury list ahead of the game against Everton this weekend. Disasi has never missed a game through injury and has been Chelsea's most consistent player.

His absence will mean Mauricio Pochettino might have to change things at the back. Raheem Sterling and Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez are also a doubt through illness.

They add to the likes of Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell who have all struggled to stay fit throughout the campaign.
