Chelsea missed 14 first-team players but could still beat Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino could be set for a massive boost ahead of the game against West Ham on Sunday. The Blues showed outstanding mental strength to beat Tottenham 2-0 on Thursday night despite the mounting injury crisis at the club.

The club’s academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist started at right back due to injuries to both Reece James and Malo Gusto. In midfield, they were missing the dynamic passing range of Enzo Fernandez while Raheem Sterling who is one of the experienced players in the squad was also not fit enough to make the squad.

But Pochettino has admitted there could be light at the end of the tunnel by saying he was hoping both Christopher Nkunku and Levi Colwill would be ready for when West Ham come to Stamford Bridge

He told reporters ahead of the game to Tottenham: "Today, normally, we prepare the game for tomorrow. We did some set-pieces, tactical work, and meetings.

“They are nearly there. They are on the line, but they don’t cross the line. We hope they will cross the line for West Ham on Sunday.”

Chelsea boosting European ambitions

After what has been an incredibly challenging season, Chelsea have now lost only one of their last 17 home games. They are ending the league season strongly having overtaken West Ham into eighth.

The Blues are now just two points behind seventh-placed Newcastle United with just four games to end the campaign. There was visible disappointment after the League Cup and FA Cup semi-final setbacks, but getting some form of European football will be seen as a massive success.

Reece James was spotted at Stamford Bridge after the win against Spurs even though there is still no clarity on when he will be able to play again this season games running.
