'Exciting': Mauricio Pochettino handed dream midfield boost ahead of Manchester City FA Cup game

Chelsea will go into the FA Cup game against Manchester City having recorded their most impressive performance against Everton on Monday night. The win also lifted the veil on what could be the ideal midfield set for the game with Moises Caicedo enjoying his best game for the club alongside Conor Gallagher.

The Ecuadorian midfielder made 94 touches, four interceptions, won 16 tackles and flourished playing alongside the durable Gallagher. Injury to Enzo Fernandez forced manager Mauricio Pochettino to change things with Cole Palmer trusted to play as a no 10. 

The decision brought the best out of the team with the magnificent Palmer scoring 4 goals as Chelsea cruised to their most impressive win of the season. Danny Murphy who was on commentary duty for TALKSport described the former Manchester City as exciting after the game. 

He said: “He’s exciting and what you call a game changer. He scores goals and creates them in equal measure and you have to say Pep Guardiola rarely gets things wrong but I think he got it wrong with his sale.” 

Palmer leading the way as Chelsea eye Europe

The former Manchester City has risen to be the star of the long-term project at Chelsea. He’s scored the same number of goals as Erling Haaland and has nine assists. To put that in proper context he'd never scored a Premier League goal before joining Chelsea in the summer. 

He has also become the first Chelsea player to score four goals in a league game since Frank Lampard a decade ago. He’s also become the first Chelsea player since the great Eden Hazard to score 20 league goals. 

It's more impressive given he’s doing it in a youthful Chelsea team that is struggling to find consistency.
