Chelsea will not look back fondly at the 2021-2022 season, but the situation is finally looking up for them, with the announcement of Todd Boehly – their new owner.

The club’s financial struggles were not their only issue, Thomas Tuchel’s side finished the season with no silverware.

One player that still managed to have a bright campaign for Chelsea was Mason Mount, bagging 11 goals and ten assists in 32 games.

His form over the last 18 months has not gone unnoticed, becoming a key fixture in Gareth Southgate’s England side. Mount featured in all of the Three Lions' games in their brilliant run to the Euro 2020 final.

Rumours have circulated recently suggesting that new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is eyeing up a move for the 23-year-old. The midfielder has only two years left on his contract and the Dutchman may see Mount as part of his Manchester United revolution.

While his influence on the pitch is undeniable, the player is still on one of the London Club’s lowest salaries, sparking reports that the midfielder may be questioning his future. The player is reportedly on £88,000 a week and contract extension talks have allegedly stalled.

New owner Boehly should be quick to tie down the Chelsea ‘Player of the Season’ amid interest from the Red Devils.

Tuchel is a huge admirer of the Englishman and has selected him the most out of any of his players since his arrival in early 2021.

Recently, the German said: "It is always a pleasure to work with Mason because he is the kind of guy who comes with a smile on his face to every single training session.

“It is always 100 per cent in matches, he accepts every challenge and that is why it is so nice to work with him.”

The pair have a very strong relationship so it is extremely unlikely that the Blues boss will allow the midfielder to leave for a Premier League rival.

Mount spoke to Sky Sports when it was announced that Boehly would take over as owner at the club, saying: “It’s an exciting time now with the owners being confirmed today, going forward it’s going to be exciting.

“The era under Roman [Abramovich] has been brilliant, now we look forward. It’s exciting stuff, can’t wait to get back to it.”

Mount has become a pivotal part of Tuchel’s Chelsea side so it is unlikely that the player will leave for Old Trafford this window.
