Chelsea have a reported interest in Newcastle United superstar Bruno Guimaraes - but they could face stiff competition in the form of Manchester City, following rumours that the Sky Blues could activate the Brazilian's £100 million release clause.

This is according to a report from FootballTransfers, who mention that he would ideally like to move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, but it unclear if a move to either of these clubs is in the works. PSG are also interested - a move to Chelsea, as well as Liverpool, is understood to be 'unlikely' as things currently stand.

On his time at Newcastle in an interview with Sky Sports earlier in the moth, Guimaraes said: "Sometimes people speak a lot about me. I just speak a lot about football. I’m very happy here, and I like how the fans think of me here.

"I enjoy my time here a lot. I have never felt so loved. The fans have been unbelievable with me and my family. When I get the shirt I try to play for them. I don’t know [how long I’ll be here], but I hope this can keep going for much longer."

Would Bruno Guimaraes be a good addition to the Chelsea squad?

Though he is prone to bouts of shaky form and his injury record is somewhat spotty, Guimaraes is nonetheless one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League at this moment. He has virtually no weaknesses - while he is incredibly proficient on a technical level, he is also very defensively responsible.

He can occupy virtually any central midfield role, which will make him a useful rotation option even if he does not immediately stake a claim in the first team.

However, he is perhaps at his best when deployed as a box-to-box player.
