Chelsea picked up their first draw of the season but also had some players suffer injury in the game.

Chelsea suffered multiple setbacks in their draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The first to pick up a knock was defender Malo Gusto, who was involved in a very rough tackle in the second half. He tried to run it off but eventually had to be withdrawn.

In-form winger Noni Madueke, who played a key role in Nicolas Jackson's goal, also had to be withdrawn late on after he was unable to continue, with Christopher Nkunku coming on for him.

The biggest blow, however, came deep into extra time when Enzo Fernandez, the captain of the day, went down after attempting to clear the ball in the final minutes of the game. The Argentinian immediately went down after the block and remained on the ground even after the final whistle of what was a tense afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

In what was clearly a very disappointing afternoon for everyone, Chelsea’s medical team stayed behind to work on Fernandez before helping him to his feet and taking him down the tunnel but he was able to clap back to the fans in what would have been a big relief to the manager and his country going inot the international break.

Manager Enzo Maresca was asked about the injury situation after the game, and he said:”I can tell you that Malo Gusto has a muscle injury and they are looking at it now.

“Noni Maduek is fine and I think it was just tiredness but that is it at the moment.”

The Chelsea boss also confirmed striker Nicolas Jackson who opened the scoring was very close to signing a new deal at the club that is expected to keep him until the summer of 2033.

He will follow in the footsteps of Cole Palmer who was rewarded for his efforts last season with a new contract. On the game itself the Chelsea manager said he was certain they would score more goals and win games.

“We played well and the referee competely distroyed the game but I saw enough to know we will games.”
