Chelsea will now have to decide if they will pursue Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo after they agreed a deal in principle with rising star Levi Colwill to sign a new six-year deal.

Brighton had always wanted to add Levi Colwill to the deal having seen the young defender impress while out on loan with the Seagulls under Rober De Zerbi.

The Blues have always insisted the defender was not for sale or even loan and have now moved fast to assure him that he will have enough playing time and be one of the cornerstones of Mauricio Pochettino’s new team.

Colwill’s signing is a massive boost and in some way, a blow to their aspirations for the midfielder with the Blues now having to either pay the £10milion Brighton have been asking for all summer or walk away from the deal entirely.

Chelsea have also now initiated talks with the Seagulls for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who has been left out of their tour of the United States. The Spanish goalkeeper fell out of favour at the end of last season and is reported to be desperate to leave.

Chelsea are in the market for a goalkeeper who will provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga after the exit of Edouard Mendy at the start of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are also considering cutting their loss on Romelu Lukaku with claims in Italy that Juventus are willing to do a swap deal with Dusan Vlahovic. Lukaku is Chelsea’s highest earner and spent last season out on loan at Inter Milan, helping them to reach the final of the Champions League.
