Per Italian football journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have submitted an official proposal for a transfer fee of €90 million that would also see the 20-year old remain with Leipzig for the remainder of the season.
Gvardiol could become Chelsea’s second signing in the closing hours of the transfer window, which shuts at 11pm tomorrow for English clubs, with Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana close to joining the club.

Gvardiol is 20-years old and already has three full seasons of senior football under his belt as well as several senior caps for the Croatian men’s national side.
The defender came through the youth ranks at hometown club Dinamo Zagreb and broke into the first team in 2019 after a brief spell with Dinamo Zagreb II.
He made 52 appearances for the capital club between 2019 and 2021 before earning his move to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.
His first season with the German side saw him immediately established as a first team regular in both domestic and continental football with 46 appearances across all competitions.
On the international stage, Gvardiol worked his way through the Croatian national youth sides from U14 up to U21 level before winning his first senior cap in 2021.
