Jamie Carragher may well have been right about Chelsea star Raheem Sterling.

Jamie Carragher looks to have been right about Raheem Sterling amid Chelsea’s confident away win over Burnley on Saturday.

The Blues made easy work of Burnley on Saturday afternoon despite going behind early in the game. Raheem Sterling put on an inspired performance, forcing an own goal to get level before the Blues went ahead through Cole Palmer’s penalty. Sterling then got a much-deserved goal of his own before Nicolas Jackson kept his cool to convert from close range, rounding off the scoring at 4-1.

It was an important win for Chelsea, who have now won back-to-back games, moving into the top half and back within four points of the top six, albeit sixth-placed Brighton play on Sunday.

But it was also an important display from Sterling, who is showing signs of rediscovering his best form this season despite inconcistent displays from Chelsea as a whole. And Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher suggested a month ago that Sterling may be on his way back to his best, claiming there was ‘more to come’ after a bright display at Luton.

“Dancing feet from Raheem Sterling. He looked back to his best last week and this is more evidence of that. We’re now seeing the real Raheem Sterling now in a Chelsea shirt,” Carragher said on the commentary.

The former Liverpool defender then added in the studio: “It’s always been a little bit of a criticism of Raheem actually that he’s not a great finisher and doesn’t strike the ball really well but when you look at his time at Manchester City I think there was a stat at the time when he left the club that there was only Lionel Messi in a pep Guardiola team than Raheem sterling,

“I think he’s been a great Premier League player. Fantastic at Liverpool – got that big move to city. And not every player delivers at a big club when they go for a big price, but he did.

“He got all the trophies all the goal and a couple of years ago he was England’s best player in the European Championship and he had a great tournament, but the last season was almost a nothing season at all for him really. And I just think he’s got the bit between his teeth really.

“He was outstanding against Liverpool and his performance level went up again, against West Ham, and you think of Mauricio Pochettino coming up against Raheem when he was manager of Tottenham and he was making those penetrating runs but I want to see more of it. He’s a fantastic player and there’s more to come.”
