Romelu Lukaku is in Italy to undergo his medical and bring to an end his second spell at Chelsea after an underwhelming season with the Blues.

The Belgian striker is set to sign for Inter Milan on loan just a year after arriving at Stamford Bridge as the club’s record signing for £97.5million.

When Lukaku returned to Chelsea last summer he was supposed to create a dynasty, and he started with a bang after scoring against Arsenal on his debut.

But things started to spiral out of control as the goals dried up and he fell out with manager Thomas Tuchel.

His interview with Sky Italia did not go down with the German manager and since then, they just never looked like working well together.

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta says bringing Lukaku, a player they consider a part of their club, back home was in the best interests of everyone.

He told reporters in Italy: “We have to thank the availability of the presidency and the owners.

“I hope it can be closed, not in a few hours, but a few days.

“We cannot make it official yet, he is a returning player who has done very well with us and we are happy to bring him home.”

With the striker moving on Chelsea are closing in on two major signings they think will compensate for the loss of Lukaku, with Leeds United’s Raphinha and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.

There are still voids to fill in the back after the departure of Antonio Rudiger, a rock in the team, and Andreas Christensen who was at Chelsea for eight years.
