Chelsea and Arsenal linked striker Mehdi Taremi is set to join Serie A giants Inter Milan this summer despite interest in his goalscoring services from across the continent.

The 31-year-old's contract at current side Porto is set to expire this summer, which had made a free transfer deal for Taremi an enticing option for clubs in need of firepower, such as the Blues and the Gunners. The Iran national has six goals in all competitions this term but bagged 31 goals last season in an impressive showing in Portugal - he now has 186 club goals in his career.

Taremi has been described as a 'late bloomer', having only made his breakthrough move to Porto in 2020, but is now a proven goalscorer in the Champions League. Confirming the news on social media platform X, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote: "Inter have now booked medical tests for Mehdi Taremi to join as free agent in June, here we go! Verbal agreement with Taremi in place since one month ago — deal valid until June 2026 including an option to get it extended for one more year. Deal set to be signed."

Taremi, who has been named in the Primeira Liga Team of the Year for three seasons in a row, was a previous nominee for the Puscas Award in 2021 for a bicycle kick scored against Chelsea in the Champions League Quarter Final. The Blues have often been linked with the player since then with Metro outlining their interest in the star last summer.

The Portuguese press had also linked Arsenal with a move for the Porto striker with Spurs also reported to have viewed the veteran forward as a Harry Kane replacement last summer. In November, TeamTALK reported that Manchester United had been given a 'blessing' to move in for the star but it is now Inter Milan who have struck a deal.

Speaking last month as Inter made their move to land an agreement with the player, former Nerazzurri manager Fabio Capello said: “I don’t know about many Iranian players. But I know Taremi well. He has all the qualities that you could want in a striker. And he’s one of the most complete players in the Portuguese top flight. He’s a top-class player."
