Moreover, he also branded Gusto as the 'best player on the pitch' during the Blues' 3-2 home win over Newcastle United on Monday evening. He noted the Frenchman's ability to keep dangerous attacking players quiet, pointing out how Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon 'didn't get a sniff' thanks to his efforts.

The 2023/24 season has been a real breakout campaign for Gusto. He was thrown in at the deep end after Chelsea's first-choice right-back, Reece James, sustained a long-term injury that necessitated Gusto's inclusion in the starting XI. It hasn't been a perfect spell for the youngster, but his ability to make the step up at such short notice has been admirable.

So far this season, Gusto has made 28 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. He has yet to score his first competitive goal for the Blues, but he has managed to rack up an impressive seven assists. Not only is he an astute defender with excellent physical and mental attributes, he can also maraud down the right flank and provide an effective attacking threat when necessary.

What did Harry Redknapp have to say about Chelsea starlet Malo Gusto?

Speaking on Gusto in a recent interview with BetVictor, Redknapp said: "Malo Gusto keeps getting better and better for Chelsea. I thought he was the best player on the pitch against Newcastle. Whether it was Anthony Gordon or Miguel Almiron, they didn’t get a sniff.

"You forget this lad’s age as well; he looks a really good prospect. The best compliment I can give him is that they don’t really miss Reece James and Mauricio Pochettino might just have a big decision to make in that position."
