Chelsea have already qualified to the knockout stage of the Champions League but a thrashing in the Premier league at the hands of Brighton means Graham Potter can not afford to take his foot off the pedal against Dinamo Zagreb.

The Blues lost to the Crotians in the first game of the group and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Thomas Tuchel who had led them to Champions League glory a few months prior.  Potter knows that Chelsea is a club where two consecutive defeats means crisis and will now have to find a fine balance of giving players minutes and impressing the fans.

The good news is that they are unbeaten in the four games they have played in the Champions League against the English manager and have won their last three which will provide some respite ahead of the game. They are without in-form Kepa Arrizabalga who has impressed early there is an opportunity for Edouard Mendy who not long ago was the club’s first choice.

Chelsea have not lost a home Champions League group game since 2019 and this is a win written all over but Potter has to pick his team carefully with the Arsenal game in the Premier League just around the corner.

The record equalling feat that Potter is closing in on early in his Chelsea career

Graham Potter is looking to go undefeated in his first five Champions League games as chelsea manager tonight and if he can avoid a defeat with equal Roberto Di Matteo’s record in 2011-2012 season and they went on to lift the trophy that year.

So some big boots to fill but the defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion has deflated the mood at the club and a win will be the best preparation for the upcoming Arsenal game.

The injuries are mountaining for Potter with Weslye Fofana, Reece Jamaes and Kepa Arrizabalaga all ruled but Kalidou Kolibaly is likely to return and having missed the last couple of games and there is hope that Raheem Sterling without a Premier League goal since august can find his scoring boots again
