Gary Neville causes utter confusion with what he just said about Chelsea and Todd Boehly

Gary Neville has left Chelsea fans baffled after issuing a verdict on Todd Boehly’s transfer approach. The Blues have been busy at the end of the window, adding now former Manchester City forward Cole Palmer on a deal worth more than £40million.

Chelsea had been patient earlier in the window, but they have still wound up spending significantly in a bid to strengthen Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. Though, it must be added that Chelsea have managed to secure a number of exits this summer, saving significantly on wages while also bringing in hefty transfer fees.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Romelu Lukaku are off the books one way or another, and the list keeps growing on deadline day. Still, the headline is that Chelsea have now spent more than £1billion under new owner Boehly, who has been bold in his transfer approach since arriving at the club.

Crucially, Chelsea have little to show for it up to this point, with the Blues failing to qualify for Europe last season, but there is renewed hope under new boss Pochettino, especially with the squad now trimmed down to normal levels.

After the Palmer signing saw Chelsea hit the £1billion figure under Boehly, Sky Sports pundit Neville took to Twitter/X, baffling many Chelsea fans by saying: “Incredible. I think he will likely become a fall guy at some point soon for this strategy.”

Amid a sea of criticism from Chelsea fans, one said: “How so?”. Neville may be poking fun at Boehly because he has sacked two managers amid his spending spree, but it’s pretty unclear exactly what the pundit is trying to say. What we do know is that it is nothing positive.

It didn’t end there, either. After one fan said he would expect the same level of criticism from Neville if United get new owners, the former Red Devil added: “It’s not the spending big! It’s the spending big and wondering where it’s gone!”
