'It's scary': Frank Lampard shocked by how good 21y/o Chelsea star has been despite Manchester City defeat

Frank Lampard has been speaking about Chelsea and their performance against Manchester City.

Frank Lampard says Cole Palmer can go all the way in his career after impressing again in Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at Wembley. The 21-year-old did not score at Wembley but his class was evident every time he picked the ball. Creating dangerous situations and forcing City back.

This season, Palmer has 20 scored league goal, same at Erling Haaland and 25 in all competitions despite Chelsea's struggles to find consistency. Lampard who is Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer says Palmer’s adaptation to life in west London has been scary given it took him a while to get going when he arrived from West Ham.

Lampard told the BBC: "Cole Palmer can go so far. What's exceptional is he's done it from the off - at a club in a difficult moment. It's not easy to show that quiet confidence. It's scary how far he can go. The levels he's shown are incredible."

"I was a slow burner. That's the credit I give to Cole Palmer. I took me a year to feel comfortable at Chelsea. He's gone into the dressing room and said, 'I'm the man' and he's delivered. He can be one of those elite ones who keeps going up levels."

All eggs in one basket now for Chelsea after City defeat

Chelsea will end this season without a trophy and they will now have to find form in the league to try and finish in a European spot. They were hoping to win the FA Cup and secure Europa League football, but after dominating and being wasteful, it's all now left to a strong finish in the league.

They have not lost in the league since early February against Wolves and came to Wembley at the back of eight games without a defeat, the longest under Pochettino but in the end they just did not put their goal-scoring boots on and City got the all-important goal.

They will now travel to the Emirates on Tuesday night hoping for three points that could at least secure some kind of European football.
