Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea have reached transfer agreement over midfielder as decision made

Chelsea have agreed a deal to land a transfer windfall in the final days of the January window.

Chelsea have finally agreed a deal to offload one of their unwanted players ahead of Monday night. The Blues have spent much of this window trying to offload players who have not been able to get regular football under Enzo Maresca in the first part of the season.

Maresca has made it clear that such players will be allowed to leave the club, with he likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell and perhaps Christopher Nkunku racing the deadline to secure an exit.

Casadei exit latest

Another player who has been heavily linked with a move is midfielder Cesare Casadei. The Italian was offered a chance to leave on loan in the summer, but by his own admission, he was convinced to stay and fight for his place by Maresca. Though, the fight has not gone his way, with Casadei struggling for minutes outside of the Conference League, and he has become a prime candidate to leave this month as a result.

There has been plenty of interest in the midfielder from his home country, with Lazio having pushed for a deal for much of the month, but they were unable to agree terms with Chelsea, who were willing to lose money on their £12.5million or so investment as long as they had a 35-40% sell-on clause that would protect them in case their initial projections about Casadei’s potential turn out to be correct.

But Lazio’s Serie A rivals Torino have now stepped in to land Casadei and take him to Northern Italy, offering a higher fee and securing a lower sell-on fee as a result. Fabrizio Romano has tweeted: “Cesare Casadei has left Chelsea and becomes new Torino player on a permanent deal. €15m package, 25% sell-on clause, saga over.”

Casadei will return to Italy three years after leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea as a final year youth player. He will leave having only racked up 11 league appearances, completing loan spells with Reading and Leicester City during that time.

Chukwuemeka latest

Elsewhere, Carney Chukwuemeka is also set to move on this month, but Chelsea are not open to any sort of purchase agreement, according to Romano.

He tweeted: “Understand Chelsea will NOT accept any loan with buy option clause for Carney Chukwuemeka. Chelsea only consider straight loan as possibility for final 48h with Borussia Dortmund keen and in talks. Pathway, playing time and loan fee will be key to decide with.”
