Fabrizio Romano issues update on Chelsea 'target' as Blues slash asking price

All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea as they look to strengthen.

Chelsea are now just days away from returning for pre-season training, with Enzo Maresca summoning his men back to Cobham on August 4 after a strange pre-season due to the FIFA Club World Cup. In the meantime, work goes on as Chelsea look to add to their squad in the summer window.

Many more incomings and outgoings are expected at Stamford Bridge by the time the window slams shut at the end of August. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Bridge.

Donnarumma update

Chelsea have been sent an update amid their reported interest in PSG goalkeeper Giglio Donnarumma, who has been linked with an exit amid the French club’s signing of a new keeper.

Fabrizio Romano has posted on X: “Gigio Donnarumma and his camp do not rule out to stay at Paris Saint-Germain. Even with contract expiring in June 2026 and Chevalier coming soon, Gigio could stay and compete for his spot as he did with Navas… …and then, decide his future in the next months.” Chelsea are still said to be considering replacing number one keeper Robert Sanchez, but the situation remains pretty fluid depending on whether the right option emerges, and indeed at the right price.

Chukwuemeka asking price slashed

Chelsea are said to have slashed their asking price for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka as they look to offload him permanently this summer. Chukwuemeka enjoyed a solid loan spell with Borussia Dortmund last season, but the German club are said to be unwilling to sign him permanently just yet, preferring another loan deal, although that may have been due to a mammoth asking price of £40million.

The Blues were eyeing a big profit, but there were no takers. According to Bild, Chelsea are now prepared to slash their asking price to just £20million, and it will be interesting to see whether that’s enough to make Dortmund bite.

Colwill on Chelsea’s FCWC win

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has been speaking about the FIFA Club World Cup win and what it means for his side. He told The Athletic: “We had ups and downs like a lot of teams last season. We still stayed around the top four and were never miles behind. With the fans, we really went all together and just pushed. When that happens, I feel something just lights up and you just win, win, win. That’s what we were doing in the Premier League, then we won the Conference League and headed into the Club World Cup with that mindset.

“But it felt like no one thought we had half a chance, even in the final, and I thought that was very disrespectful. All the questions before the game were based on, ‘You’re not stopping PSG’. I am not complaining. It gave us that fire in the belly, and we proved everyone wrong.

“It does feel like there are not many people who respect us out there. We have been using it and will continue to do so. It might change now that we are world champions, we don’t know. But we are going into games feeling like we have a point to prove. It gives us that extra one per cent, which can make a huge difference. Do I think teams will target a win over Chelsea even more so that they can say they have beaten the world champions? Definitely, but that is not a bad thing. They will give us respect. But we have to always be on it; our mindset has to be that we have to win every game. We feel like we can definitely compete for the Premier League. The players we have in our squad are among the best, and we are really excited for this season, to once again prove people wrong.”
