Ex-Chelsea star speaks out on £200m duo and compares them to struggling Manchester United man

Ex-Chelsea defender Glen Johnson wants more from Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Former Chelsea star Glen Johnson says star signings Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez should be helping others play better due to their price tag. Johnson, who played for both Chelsea and Liverpool, also admitted he'd seen glimpses of their talent but acknowledged that they haven't done it consistently.

He told Betfred, “Moisés and Enzo have had so much change going on around them. Obviously, if you're the manager and the club has bought two guys that have cost around £100 million each, you want them to stand up and pull the others into place. You would expect a bit more character from them, but it’s still early in their Chelsea careers, and they have put in performances periodically that are top level, but by their standards, they haven't done it as often as we all would have expected."

The former England defender also acknowledged that Manchester United's Brazilian winger Antony receives a lot of criticism for his performances compared to the Chelsea duo, which he described as unfair.

He added, “You don't want to see any of them getting grief, but Antony certainly receives an awful lot of backlash and has, in a way, taken the spotlight away from the likes of Moisés and Enzo.”

“When you look at it in terms of why Antony is receiving so much criticism and not them, it does seem unfair, but none of us want to see these players get criticized in the first place. At the end of the day, all of them want to perform at their best, but sometimes in life, that’s not how it goes.”

Both Enzo and Caicedo have returned to Chelsea's training base in Cobham after their three-day break and have begun preparations for their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Championship side Middlesbrough next week.
