La Liga Champions Barcelona have completed the signing of former Chelsea and former Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu who has been pictured in training already. The Spanish side have reportedly inserted a £400m release clause in his contract.

The 31-year-old came through the club’s famed La Masia academy but didn't play much for them before moving to Chelsea to Chelsea in 2011. He stayed with the Blues till 2015 even though he had a couple of loan spells away, he eventually moved to Southampton.

His departure from Southampton to Ginoralast summer somehow affected the team's performance and they ended up being relegated while he has just spent one season with the Spanish minors before returning to the club where it all started for him.

Romeu was given his first-team debut by Pep Guardiola in 2010-11 and is one of the players admired by technical managers with his signing meant to fill the gap created by the exit of Sergio Busquet.

Barcelona won the league title last year and are looking to defend it, they are also hoping to have a massive crack at the Champions League again after recent years of underperforming.

Romeu is Barcelona’s third signing of the summer following the arrival of free agents Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez.

Chelsea meanwhile are looking to get their preseason going tomorrow when they host League Two side Wrexham before games against Brighton, Fulham, Newcastle and Dortmund come along.

The Blues are also in discussions with Brighton for the signing of highly-respected midfielder Moises Caicedo as a replacement for N’Golo Kante who left the club this summer.
