European giants 'interested' in signing Chelsea player Enzo Maresca likes on loan

Chelsea may have a transfer decision to make amid reported interest in a player Enzo Maresca is a fan of.

Chelsea face a potential decision with one of their talented young players amid reported interest from elsewhere. It could be an interesting window for the Blues, particularly in the way of outgoings, with incomings likely to be few and far between given the spending the club has managed over recent years.

There are a handful of players who could leave, however, with Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka the most high profile players who have been made available amid limited opportunities. Elsewhere, there is a player Chelsea hold in close regard who is attracting interest, with Renato Veiga reportedly being eyed as a possible loan signing.

Transfer ‘insider’ Fabrizio Romano has written X: “Napoli have been showing interest in Chelsea defender Renato Veiga as an option for the January window on loan. There are more clubs interest, but still unclear whether Chelsea can let him go playing more or not. Maresca see Veiga as an important player.”

Veiga has made 17 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, with seven of those outings coming in the Premier League. At just 21 years of age, he has impressed, too, with Enzo Maresca previously saying: “I just said to Renato, he has played already as a centre-back, a full-back, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder. He has already played four or five positions. One of my first press conferences, I said that the reason why I really like and love Chelsea is because many players can be versatile.

“Today, in my idea, if they can play different positions, then it is better for the team and especially for the players. Today, if you just play one position, I don’t think it’s enough. You need to learn more positions. Renato, Malo [Gusto], they are playing in different positions and they are doing well.”

Due to his versatility, Veiga is an important squad player for the Blues, regularly on the bench, and players like him will be particularly important over the coming months, with Chelsea having to balance the Premier League, FA Cup and Conference League. It could be a risky decision for the Blues to allow Veiga to move on at this point, although it might be tempting if Napoli are willing to offer regular first team starts, given the impact that could have on the young defender’s development.
