Confirmed: Why Chelsea manager is leaving role and the end of the season and Todd Boehly stance

Chelsea have just confirmed Emma Hayes will leave her role as the first-team coach of the women’s team at the end of this season’s Super League campaign.

LondonWorld understand that she has decided to accept the role of being the next USA women's national team coach.

Hayes joined Chelsea in 2012 and throughout her time with the club, she secured six WSL titles, five FA Cups, two FA Women’s League Cups, one FA Women’s Spring Series trophy, and one Women’s Community Shield.

Chelsea confirmed her departure in a short statement: “Chelsea FC can today confirm that highly decorated Chelsea Women’s manager Emma Hayes OBE will depart the club at the end of the season to pursue a new opportunity outside of the WSL and club football.”

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly admitted Emma’s legendary status at the club and confirmed he was looking forward to working with her for the remainder of her stay at the club.

He told the club’s website: “Emma’s contribution to Chelsea cannot be understated. She has been a pioneer in women’s football and is hugely respected within the game. We look forward to continuing to work together over the coming months.”

Hayes guided Chelsea to a domestic treble in 2021 and has been named manager of the season six times, as well as LMA WSL manager of the season on five occasions.

Last year, she was awarded an OBE for her services to football. This followed an MBE she received in 2016.
