Confirmed Chelsea XI vs Preston: Mauricio Pochettino goes strong and hands 20-year-old first start

The starting XI Chelsea Mauricio Pochettino has named for the FA Cup game against Preston.

Chelsea will be hoping to make it three wins in the last three games in all competitions when they take on Prest North End in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge this weekend. The Blues have reached the last four of the Carabao Cup and will want to go as far as that in the FA Cup too.

The Argentinian manager has named Alfie Gilchrist in the first eleven for the first time this season.

Pochettino is however, without nine players for this game including, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, Trevoh Chalobah, Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia will also miss the match at Stamford Bridge this evening.

There is also the matter of the Carabao Cup semi-final game against Middlesbrough next week, which will undoubtedly be playing on the mind of Chelsea Mauricio but he has gone strong here with a host of the first team players named in the starting 11.

The Blues have struggled for consistency in the Premier League but the Cup competitions could be where the season is defined as winning both the League Cup and the FA Cup will guarantee them a spot in Europe and give satisfaction to the fans.

Last season they finished 12th, changed four managers and sold almost half the squad as they saw the need to refresh things and change the module that was used under the Roman Abramovich era.

Pochettino knows what is at stake and his starting line-up suggests he is not underestimating the opposition.
