Confirmed Chelsea starting XI vs Aston Villa as under-pressure Mauricio Pochettino starts 20y/o in FA Cup tie

Mauricio Pochettino has named 20-year-old Cole Palmer in his side's starting XI against Aston Villa tonight.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is hoping for a reaction to the disappointing 4-2 defeat to Wolves over the weekend. They are at Villa Park tonight to try and reach the last sixteen of the FA Cup after drawing 0-0 at Stamford Bridge a couple of weeks ago.

This has been a very disappointing week for the Blues but the board have backed Pochettino who revealed he received a nice message from the owners despite the challenging nature of the results lately.

He told reporters ahead of the game tonight: "I haven't [heard] anything in another way. I received very good texts from them. Of course, I am in contact with them and the sporting director every day."

Chelsea have lost their last two games which makes this a nervous one as they have not lost three consecutive matches all campaign. The club have spent over £1 billion since American businessman Todd Boehly took over in May 2022 but they remain 11th on the league table which has led to manager Pochettino coming under-increased pressure.

The season can however be rescued in the Cup competition after they reached the final of the Carabao Cup where they will face Liverpool later this month. Progress in the FA Cup will keep hopes alive and with that in mind, this is the team Pochettino has put up for the vital game at Villa Park.
