What Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has said about Mykhailo Mudryk as 'not happy' claim made

A look at what Enzo Maresca has had to say about struggling winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

It has been a rocky road for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. The Blues paid around £90million including bonuses to sign the winger, beating a number of other interested clubs to the deal.

Since then, the Ukrainian has struggled to show the sort of form he managed for Shakhtar Donetsk, failing to nail down a consistent starting spot under Mauricio Pochettino and current boss Enzo Maresca. Of his 15 appearances across all competitions this season, Mudryk has made only seven league appearances, starting only once. Here we round up what Maresca has had to say about the struggling winger.

Slow progress

Maresca said of Mudryk back in late October: “We're working with him and all the wingers. They need to arrive inside the box in the position where Misha [Mudryk] scored. He's struggled to arrive there, now he's started to. That's where we're going to score goals. We want the best for Misha - since day one we've tried to help him.

"Probably he's one of the guys that the learning process is more slow compared to the rest. But he's improving. I'm sure that slowly, slowly we're going to arrive where he will score more goals and to be more important for us."

‘The way he is’

Speaking in September, Maresca challenged Mudryk to get better. He said: “I don’t think it’s a lack of confidence,” Maresca said about Mudryk’s form.“Misha is Misha, you have to accept the way he is. Hopefully he can get minutes and do better.”

‘Not happy’

Maresca was not happy with what Mudryk produced in an August win over Wolves, explaining when asked why he took the winger off: "Because I was not happy. In some moments we can manage some situations better. He was working hard off the ball but on the ball, I expect a bit more quality from Misha. He had some good moments today but the reason why was to change it and give Pedro some minutes."
