'No new updates': Jurgen Klopp hands Chelsea potential boost with fresh injury news ahead of League Cup final

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he's not getting any luck with recovering players ahead of the League Cup final against Chelsea this weekend. Klopp was forced into making five changes to his team against Luton Town, the last game before the Wembley showdown. 

He also had to name five academy graduates who had never even started a Premier League game on his bench against the Hatters. And the manner of the 4-1 win enabled him to bring on Bobby Clark and James McConnell, and also hand a senior debut to 18-year-old forward Jayden Danns.

But there is still no certainty surrounding the fitness of players like Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez who Klopp admits he doesn't know if they will be ready for the game on Sunday, handing Chelsea a boost if indeed all these players don't recover in time for the game.

The Liverpool boss told reporters after the Luton Town win: “No (no new updates), I don’t even know if these boys can play again to be honest.

“I am so happy the kids came on and played. Dannsy (Jayden Danns) said 50 times, ‘Thank you, boss! Thank you, boss!’ I am so happy I could give them that opportunity. It’s just nice and the boys deserve it.

“Obviously, for us, a lot of super important games coming up and we don’t know (when they’ll be back). We go day by day. 

“I cannot say anything about it and I don’t know. But after Brentford, I had no clue that the situation would be like it is now. Let’s see."

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also been ruled out of the game due to a hamstring issue, but Chelsea have their own injury issues with captain Reece James, summer signing Romeo Lavia and the experienced Thiago Silva all set to miss out as the Blues go in search of their first trophy under Clearlake Capital ownership.
