Chelsea vs Barrow injury news with seven out as Blues handed huge boost ahead of EFL third round clash
Enzo Maresca’s side are back at Stamford Bridge following 3-0 triumph over West Ham
Chelsea are back in action fresh off their 3-0 Premier League win over West Ham in Stratford on Saturday. Nicolas Jackson scored a brace before Cole Palmer put the final nail in the coffin. The Irons were left to rue their disastrous start to the 2024/25 campaign, while the Blues secured some much needed points to continue their encouraging rise up the table
Enzo Maresca’s side have had, however, just three days to prepare for their next clash in which they take on League Two’s Barrow FC in the EFL Cup third round. Speaking ahead of the match at Stamford Bridge , Maresca admitted he believes it will present a perfect opportunity to rotate his starting line-up. .
“It will be a chance to give them some minutes in the same way as we have done in the Europa Conference League, we try to share minutes with them. Hopefully it can be a good chance for them to show (themselves) a little bit and also continue to get minutes.”
Ahead of the Carabao Cup third round match, here is the latest injury news from both Chelsea and Barrow’s squads...
Chelsea injury news
Chelsea have been handed a huge boost ahead of the match, with Maresca confirming 21-year-old Malo Gusto is back and ‘available’.
The right-back, who has been impressive in Reece James’ absence, was forced off during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at the start of September due to a muscle problem. However, the Frenchman has since stepped up his rehabilitation and will be in contention for a place in the starting XI.
Central midfielder Romeo Lavia will remain unavailable for selection but Maresca did indicate that he expects the Belgian to be ready to feature in Chelsea’s next Premier League match. Speaking in the pre-match press conference, the Italian head coach said: “Romeo is not available. Hopefully he can be available for the Brighton game.”
Barrow injury news
Stephen Clemence’s defence is in quite a state of disarray, with four back-line stars set to be out of action for the upcoming clash against the Premier League giants.
Both centre-back Rory Feely and right-winger Connor Mahoney were injured during the League Two club’s 2-0 win over Newport County and their availability for Tuesday will remain a doubt until closer to kick-off.
Centre-backs Sam Barnes and Chris Stokes, as well as fellow defender Mazeed Ogungbo, have all been out of action for lengthy periods of time but it is anticipated that Barnes and Stokes could soon be making a return. Stokes is said to be back training on the grass but is unlikely to have gained enough fitness to be match-ready.
