Chelsea's transfer plan to reach elite level 'revealed' amid bold £100m double release clause raid claims
Chelsea are reportedly keen on a pair of players with release clauses amounting to £100m.
Chelsea are keen to try and improve in the summer transfer window as they continue to develop under manager Enzo Maresca.
They are trying to finish in the Champions League places this season for a return to the competition amid their current position in the UEFA Conference League. The Blues sit fourth in the Premier League table.
They made 11 summer signings in 2024, and already seem to be planning for next summer, as they are reportedly interested in a centre-back and a winger that could take their squad to the next level, and closer to Premier League title contention.
Chelsea keen on Arsenal target Nico Williams
The Blues have been linked with Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams who is a transfer target for rivals Arsenal in the summer window too. Williams has a £49m release clause attached to his contract, meaning that the Blues could sign the Spaniard without challenge from the La Liga club. He has scored three goals and contributed five assists for Bilbao this season.
According to a report by TeamTalk, Chelsea want to sign Williams in the summer transfer window, and he is expected to leave the club amid interest from Arsenal and Barcelona too.
He would likely replace Jadon Sancho if Chelsea did sign him, as Sancho is set to return to Manchester United in the summer when his loan deal at Stamford Bridge expires. He has made 18 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals and four assists for the Blues this season. Williams will be a big transfer story this summer, as Arsenal are likely to make a move for the 22-year-old as they look to add more depth on the wing in order to take some of the pressure off Bukayo Saka, who suffered a hamstring injury this season.
Chelsea also target Bournemouth star
The report also includes Chelsea targeting Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, who is also likely to generate a lot of transfer interest in the summer window. The 19-year-old centre-back has made 18 Premier League appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side this season, who have impressed, currently sitting seventh in the table, just three points behind Enzo Maresca’s side.
Chelsea will likely sign a centre-back in the summer with several names being touted. However, the report says that Huijsen will have a £50m release clause added to his contract in the summer, meaning that Chelsea could sign him without opposition from Bournemouth. The report says that Chelsea have already made contact with Huijsen’s agent over a potential summer transfer. Tottenham and Manchester United are both said to be keen on the 19-year-old too as all three clubs look to make a blockbuster centre-back signing.
Chelsea have also been linked to both Murillo from Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, and are expected to make a move for either these two, or Huijsen in the summer window. They are looking to add depth at the position after Wesley Fofana suffered a season-ending injury in December, which has proven a big blow for Maresca, who had Fofana as his first choice centre-back this season.
