The injury will be a big blow to Thomas Tuchel, who paired the French midfielder with Jorginho, as he navigates the tricky start to the season.

The duo had been bossing the centre of the park, until the Italian made an uncharacteristic error for Spurs’ first goal and Kante suffered his injury.

Chelsea though would feel disappointed with the final result after they dominated the game and took the lead with a brilliant half volley from new signing Kalidou Koulibaly.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg equalised for the Lillywhites against the run of play, after Jorginho couldn’t clear his lines.

Reece James thought he had the moment of glory after he finished off a brilliant lay off from Raheem Sterling to restore Chelsea’s lead and send his manager Thomas Tuchel running down the touch line.

But the the battle of the Bridge would not go away and Harry Kane headed in a late equaliser for Tottenham with seconds left on the clock.

It boiled over on the touchline, with Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte almost coming to blows after the Hojbjerg goal and at full time.

The Blues boss will hope Kante’s hamstring issue is not too serious.
