A look at Chelsea’s best starting XI of the season so far, according to the stats.

Chelsea have enjoyed a strong start to the season despite suffering a setback in their final game before the international break. The Blues drew against Nottingham Forest at home, but they still find themselves fourth and only three points behind Manchester City and Arsenal in second and third place.

That start is better than most expected, given some of the issues the Blues have had in recent years, while this is also the first season under new boss Enzo Maresca. But how have each of the players performed? Here we look at Chelsea’s best starting XI according to WhoScored ratings.

GK - Robert Sanchez - 6.95

Sanchez has a strong rating but would be the starter in any case due to a lack of opportunities for Filip Jorgensen so far. Sanchez has his best game of the season so far against Forest last weekend.

LB - Marc Cucurella - 6.66

Cucurella’s rating is perhaps not as high as you would expect given his strong form, but he remains the best performing left-back. Renato Veiga has a rating of 6.46, so he is not too far off.

CB - Levi Colwill - 6.84

Colwill has played every game and is in fine form, earning an England call-up for this international period along the way.

CB - Wesley Fofana - 6.64

Fofana’s rating is a little lower, but he makes the cut ahead of Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi.

RB - Malo Gusto - 6.41

Gusto has been the preferred option on the right, but his rating suggests he might need to step up his game as Reece James nears a return.

CDM - Moises Caicedo - 7.13

Caicedo has stepped up his game in a big way so far this season, and that is reflected in his strong rating so far. Maresca will be delighted with what he has seen from the pricey midfielder.

CDM - Enzo Fernandez - 6.60

Enzo has a respectable rating but he is not far ahead of Romeo Lavia, who is rated at 6.45. The rating suggests there is room for growth, but Enzo does also bring a key leadership factor in the midfield.

CAM - Cole Palmer - 7.96

Palmer is Chelsea’s star performer at this stage, looking unstoppable with six goals and five assists. Palmer is safely ahead of Joao Felix on 6.42, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on 6.03 and some of the wingers who could also occupy this spot.

LW - Jadon Sancho - 7.32

Sancho has only made four league appearances, but he is already impressing with a strong rating, providing three assists along the way. Mykhailo Mudryk has a rating of 6.17 at this stage.

RW - Noni Madueke - 7.56

Madueke has been hugely productive on the right side, already racking up four goals. He is safely ahead of Pedro Neto on 6.41.

CF - Nicolas Jackson - 7.24

Jackson has been another highly productive player, scoring four and providing three assists to rack up a strong rating at this point. Christopher Nkunku has a rating of 6.35 and Marc Guiu is on 5.88, but he has only made one appearance off the bench.
