Chelsea have run into a midfield problem all of the sudden with N’Golo Kante sidelined for a while and Mateo Kovacic who has been playing is managing a knee problem that is hindering his form.

Potter is a possession based manager and is reported to be in the market for a midfielder in the profile of  Frenkie de Jong who can dictate games and produce quality moments on his own.

During the summer Chelsea had been linked with the player’s service and Manchester United were also reported to have been looking at him because of his relationship with Erik Ten Hag- with whom he enjoyed a remarkable season with at Ajax, but his wages and Barcelona’s demands did not allow the deal to materialise.

The Blues are looking to dominate the league and conquer Europe again and have backed Graham Potter to bring back the glory days. The Englishman is also thinking of replacing goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with Robert Sánchez in post.

Key to Potter’s system is a ball playing goalkeeper and reports out Chelsea are that they are not too impressed with the Senegal international and want to take action as soon as possible.
