Chelsea have been drawn into a battle for midfielder Moises Caicedo with an unnamed club appearing from no where to bid for the Blues target with barely four weeks to end the transfer window.

The Blues have had three bids for the midfielder rejected including the latest which is around £80million with Brighton determined to get paid a £ 100million for his services.

Brighton will play in the UEFA Europa League this season, the first time in the club’s history and are not really under pressure to sell the 21-year-old. He signed a new deal in January after Arsenal saw a bid in the region of £70million rejected for his services.

Chelsea have sold three midfielders including Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic and even though Andrey Santos and Conor Gallagher have shown they can play in the hole, signing the versatile Caicedo is seen as the icing on the cake on what has been an encouraging transfer window for the club.

Brighton manager Tony Bloom has always insisted that the only way he sells the midfielder is when interested clubs are willing to pay £100million for his service, and in Chelsea’s case there was the push to add Levi Colwill to the deal, something the Blues turned down.

Chelsea are expected to return with a fourth bid but what is unclear is if they will qual the £100million they want- the Blues have in the last 48 hours looked at other options including Southampton’s Romeo Lavia who has been linked with a move to Liverpool
