Chelsea captain Reece James was sent off as the Blues suffered a heavy defeat at St James' Park.

Chelsea's poor record at St James' Park continued with a 4-1 defeat to Eddie Howe's side in the Premier League.

Raheem Sterling scored a stunning free-kick to level for the Blues after Alexander Isak's early strike, but two quick goals from Jamaal Lascelles and Joelinton instantly sealed the game.

Raheem Sterling reminded everyone that there were more strings to his bow with a brilliant free kick to level for Chelsea after Alexander Isak had given Newcastle the lead.

Chelsea deserved that after a brilliant start where they matched Newcastle's physicality and always looked dangerous on the break.

Raheem Sterling said he was injured last season but looks on a personal redemption as he looked dangerous throughout the first half.

The second half however proved that Chelsea still have work to do with Anthony Gordon assisting Jamaal Lascelles to head Newcastle ahead.

Things went from bad to worse 90 seconds later when Cole Palmer's pass was loosely handled by the experienced Thiago Silva, under pressure from Joelinton just couldn't cope with the Brazilian who went in to finish, making it 3-1.

Mauricio Pochettino watching on from the stands following his suspension from the touchline for three yellow cards made changes, bringing on Armando Broja, Moises Caicedo and Mykhailo Mudryk to try and affect the game.

But the sending off Reece James later meant Chelsea had to coil in in an attempt to keep the scoreline respectable.

Anthony Gordon wrapped up the game with a brilliant finish to hand Chelsea a tough lesson on the road. Here is how we rated every Chelsea player out there.
