Chelsea player ratings vs Newcastle: 'really poor' 4/10, plenty of 5s but one 'encouraging' 8/10 in 2-0 defeat

Chelsea crashed out of the League Cup after a damaging 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, just three days after beating them at Stamford Bridge in the League. Alexandre Isak opened the scoring before an own goal by Axel Disasi deflected into Chelsea's net, giving the home side the security goal they craved. Chelsea improved and threatened, but Newcastle held on for a massive win.

Filip Jorgensen - 4

He’ll be disappointed with the goals he conceded and gave away several poor passes.

Marc Cucurella - 5

One of the leaders of the Chelsea team, he needed to calm heads when Newcastle picked up momentum. Showed brilliant defending in the second half.

Tosin Adarabioyo - 5

Had to wait for his chance to get minutes, but this was a tough game for him as Newcastle’s forwards kept pulling him out of position.

Benoît Badiashile - 5

Made a half-hearted challenge, and his distribution from the back needed more precision.

Axel Disasi - 5

Scored an own goal, but didn’t let it affect his game, continuing to play solidly.

Enzo Fernandez - 5

Consistently shows his quality, though his energy levels seemed lacking at times.

Renato Veiga - 5

Had the stamina to mostly keep up with Newcastle’s pace, though a few of his passes were overhit.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - 5

Had a good chance in the first half but couldn’t convert, and he struggled to keep up as the game progressed.

Joao Felix - 8

Missed a good chance in the first half but was Chelsea’s most dangerous player throughout. Encouraging display from the former Atletico Madrid man.

Mykhailo Mudryk - 6

Improved as the game wore on, showing blistering pace and looking threatening when he took on defenders.

Christopher Nkunku - 5

Had a difficult game, and his hold-up play could have been better.

Noni Madueke- 6

Made a difference when he came. His speed was a huge problem.
