The Chelsea player ratings from their Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Nicolas Jackson’s goal was not enough to save Chelsea from defeat at Anfield, as goals from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones meant that Liverpool took all three points. This game was billed as a test of real progress, and even though Chelsea suffered a defeat, there were genuine reasons to believe this team is headed in the right direction.

The resilience they showed and the way they dominated portions of the game would have given encouragement to Maresca. This was the first time this season that Chelsea dropped points away from home in the league this season. On a day when they would have loved to get something from Anfield, here’s how we rated the Chelsea players:

Robert Sanchez - 4

Gave Chelsea fans a scare in the first half when he tried to control a back pass from Reece James. He then looked to have given away a penalty, but VAR showed he made a brilliant block.

Levi Colwill - 4

Had a tough start to the game, as he was worked hard by Salah. He also caused the penalty that gave Liverpool the lead. This was one of his most difficult games this season.

Tosin Adarabioyo - 4

Very good aerially and calm as always, using his experience well. Surprisingly withdrawn.

Reece James - 4

Strong in tackles, but it’s clear he will need time to get back to his absolute best. He would have been happy to get 50 minutes under his belt, though.

Malo Gusto - 5

Took up a position in midfield and didn’t have to worry about what was behind him in the first half. More defensively oriented in the second half.

Romeo Lavia - 4

When he had the ball, he was very good, but he struggled off it as Liverpool set traps to catch them.

Moises Caicedo - 5

Mopped up quite well when Chelsea were in danger.

Cole Palmer - 4

A quiet game for the usually busy and effective game-changer.

Noni Madueke - 5

Breezed past Robertson and gave him nightmares in the first half.

Jadon Sancho - 3

Sloppy on the ball and was withdrawn at halftime.

Nicolas Jackson - 6

Showed composure and the clinical finishing you want to see from your striker.

Enzo Fernandez - 4

Didn’t have the kind of impact the manager would have expected when he brought him on.

Renato Veiga - 4

Strong in his tackles but not involved in the attack as he could have been.

Benoit Badiashile - 4

Composed without being tested.

Brought on and played wide. Dint get his goal but played ok.
