Chelsea player ratings vs Inter Milan: 'monstrous' 8/10, three 7/10s and but 'out of sorts' 5/10 in draw

Chelsea played well in what was manager Enzo Maresca’s first home game as Chelsea boss. The likes of Noni Madueke, Marc Guiu, and Enzo Fernandez all impressed in the first 20 minutes of the game, and ultimately scored late to draw 1-1 with Inter Milan, with Marcus Thuram scoring in the first half with Lesley Ugochukwu scoring the leveller.
This was generally an improved performance, but as has been the case throughout this pre-season, a momentary lapse in concentration from the defence allowed Inter Milan to take the lead. Joaquin Correa found the powerful Marcus Thuram, who beat Robert Sanchez in goal for Chelsea.

Hide AdChelsea had some really bright moments, with Guiu being particularly monstrous and forcing two saves from Yann Sommer, the second one requiring the Inter goalkeeper to be at his absolute best. Noni Madueke, whose position might be under threat following the signing of Pedro Neto, had another encouraging first half. He was forward-thinking and always looked to take on his man at every opportunity.
Perhaps the only player who could have done better today was Romeo Lavia, as he looked out of sorts when Chelsea were without the ball.
Both managers made wholesale changes, but in the end, the result stayed the same, and Chelsea ended their pre-season with a draw with Ugochukwu scoring with almost the last kick of the game. Here is how we rated every Chelsea player under the boiling sun of Stamford Bridge:
Robert Sanchez: 6 Brilliant save in the second half from Federico Di Marco to keep Chelsea from going two goals down.

Hide AdMarc Cucurella: 7 Played only 45 minutes, but he was solid and progressive. Confidence running high, and rightfully so, from a man who has just won the Euros.
Levi Colwill: 6 Flat-footed for the Inter Milan goal. Showed strength and looked solid otherwise.
Enzo Fernandez: 6 He has the ability to switch play without even looking like he’s trying. Captained the side to show his growing stature. Needs to do more without the ball in this system.
Noni Madueke: 7 Another player who was on for only 45 minutes, but every time he had the ball, he didn’t look to play it back. Neto’s arrival might lead to heightened competition, but he looks ready for it physically and mentally.

Hide AdDewsbury-Hall: 6 Solid without being spectacular. Needs to impose himself and work on defense-splitting passes. I guess that will come with time.
Malo Gusto: 7 Electric when chasing down opponents and has no problem stepping into midfield. His greatest gift has been that he just doesn't let Chelsea miss Reece James. Played his heart out again.
Wesley Fofana: 6 Made some really vital interventions early in the game, but as a unit with Colwill, he needed to do more for the Inter Milan goal.
Marc Guiu: 7 Monstrous performance from the young center-forward. Forced two saves from Sommer and was generally a pressing machine. Looks like he’s ready to fight for his spot.

Hide AdRomeo Lavia: 5 Enjoyed a brilliant pre-season until this game. Looked out of sorts and didn’t dictate play as he would have liked.
Tosin: 5 Played the last 20 minutes, so it was really hard to get into the groove in a fast-paced game.
Badiashile: 5 Passed well and didn’t give much away.
Renato Veiga: 6 Looked very pumped up for the game and urged the fans to get along almost every time he made a good tackle. Solid even if he wasn’t spectacular.
Cole Palmer: 6 First minutes of pre-season and he showed some really neat touches but admitted he misplaced a few passes too.

Hide AdChristopher Nkunku: 5 A nice semi-bicycle kick to test Sommer when he came on, but he didn’t threaten as much as he would have liked.
Mykhailo Mudryk: 6 Second summer where he really has to get it right. As has been the case, he had great touches but the end product was missing.
Nicolas Jackson: 5 First minutes of the season and there was not much in it. Needs to build up his minutes.
Bright when he came.
Lesley Ugochukwu : 6
Scored with the last kick of the game. Brilliant striker.
