Chelsea will take on Manchester City tomorrow but Enzo Maresca confirmed a player has missed training.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that Ben Chilwell has missed the last two days of training ahead of the game against Manchester City due to illness. Chilwell has only played 68 minutes of pre-season football and was left on the bench for the last three matches.

He was one of a few players who did not get minutes against Inter Milan, and with just over two weeks left until the transfer window closes, Maresca admits that Chilwell might find more playing time elsewhere.

When asked about the English defender's situation at the club, Maresca said: "At this moment, Chilly is with us. He has not been training for the past two days because he was a little bit ill.

"The reason why he was not playing against Inter is quite clear. I love the way he trains, I love the way he is, but the problem for us is that he struggles a little bit to find his best position."

The new Chelsea manager also confirmed that he was training with 22 players, with those expected to leave training in a separate group. However, he hinted that with the transfer window still open, anything is possible as they try to find solutions to complex transfer decisions.

He added: "I always say the same: all the players we have—22 players training—all of them want to play against Manchester City, but they won't all get the chance. They train every day to play games.

"When you train every day and don't get minutes, it's not good for them, and it's not good for me because I need to make decisions.

"For some players, it's sometimes better to leave and go somewhere to get minutes. We will see what happens. The transfer window is open, and we will see what happens."

Chelsea are also set to be without captain Reece James due to injury, but he was suspended for the game anyway after being sent off against Brighton last season.
