Chelsea are said to be close to wrapping up a deal to sell another one of their players.

Chelsea are said to be close to securing a big chunk of cash as they look to continue their summer spending. The Blues have enjoyed a rather balanced window so far this summer, unlike many of the windows since Todd Boehly and his partners took over as owners.

Big-money sales have meant Chelsea have not yet overspent ahead of the new season, though big new signings are expected to arrive, with Filip Jorgensen likely to be the next in through the doors at Stamford Bridge, travelling to the US for his medical ahead of linking up with the Chelsea squad for pre-season.

The Villarreal keeper is likely to join for around £21.6million, and he will provide competition for Robert Sanchez in goal. But there are a number of other areas Enzo Maresca will want to improve, including up top, with the Blues likely to want a big name striker.

But there are also a number of players who need to be offloaded, and striker Romelu Lukaku os one of those players. The Belgian did not get much of a chance after arriving at the club on a deal worth around £100million, quickly falling out with Thomas Tuchel.

He has since spent two seasons out on loan, and it looks as though he will seal a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge this summer. A number of Serie A clubs are battling for the Belgian striker, but it looks as though Napoli will be the team who win the race.

According to CaughtOffside, Napoli are confident that they are close to wrapping up a deal after verbally agreeing a deal with Lukaku, though they have reiterated that Chelsea need to sanction the deal before it can be wrapped up. The Serie A giants are looking to replace Victor Osimhen this summer, with the superstar set to move on.

Chelsea are said to be looking for between £30million and £35million for Lukaku, well aware that they must swallow a big loss this summer. Whether Napoli are willing to match that fee remains to be seen, but it seems as though Lukaku himself has already decided on his next destination.

What Lukaku has said

Lukaku spent last season on loan with AS Roma, and back in March, he told Sky Sports Italia of his loan spell: “The coach gives me more freedom in midfield and to push up. I have to attack the space, whereas before I was asked to hold the ball up. It is the first time I am being used as the lone centre-forward in Italy, but I’m settling well and hope we can continue improving to go far in Serie A and the Europa League.

“De Rossi talks about having new objectives every day and give your best to hit those targets. Every training session is a test and I like that, because I think great players do have to be stimulated. He said we have the objective of getting into the top four in Serie A and also progressing in Europe, so we can never let our foot off the gas.

“It was a different experience, but as soon as I arrived, I saw how much the fans love this team. I also called Radja Nainggolan and he helped prepare me for how I ought to behave. Mourinho helped me and now De Rossi is too. I try to give my best for Roma, many people don’t know what my situation was, so I thank Roma.”
