Chelsea are said to be close to finalising a deal ahead of Friday night's transfer deadline.

Chelsea are set to meet today in a bid to wrap up a transfer ahead of Friday night’s transfer deadline. Enzo Maresca saw his side take a big step forward on Sunday with a 6-2 away win over Wolves to potentially kick-start their Premier League campaign.

The Blues have spent significantly again this summer but any good work they do on and off the pitch threatens to be undone by the surplus of players who are currently hanging around at the club. Chelsea have a separate training squad made up of unwanted players and Maresca has admitted it is difficult to keep everyone happy, something his predecessors also struggled with.

Chelsea now face a race against time to offload a number of unwanted stars, and Romelu Lukaku is one of those players. It emerged last week that the Blues had reached a ‘verbal agreement’ to sell Lukaku to Napoli, but a deal still hasn’t been totally wrapped up.

According to Di Marzio, Chelsea and Napoli will meet again on Tuesday in a bid to completely wrap up a deal, with a fee of £25.3million mentioned with add-ons potentially taking the deal up to around £30million. Fabrizio Romanohas claimed that it is only a case of finalising documents and wrapping up a medical to complete the deal, but reports in Italy differm claiming the two clubs still need to finalise the details involved in the deal.

Chelsea are taking a huge hit on the £100million they paid for Lukaku, but the Belgian has spent the last two seasons out on loan, and the club have made it clear they are not willing to continue their working relationship with the striker. Napoli are looking to replace Victor Osimhen this summer with the forward expecting to return in some form before the deadline, even if no deal is forthcoming at this point.
