The Chelsea defender was previously linked over a move to Newcastle United.

Reports have emerged suggesting that Chelsea defender Axel Disasi won’t leave the club in January, despite being linked with a move away.

The centre-back has struggled to get game time in the Premier League, making just three appearances this season. However, he’s been a major part of Enzo Maresca’s squad in the Europa Conference League - a competition in which the Blues have won all of their four opening matches.

Chelsea currently sit second in the Premier League, having leapfrogged Arsenal last weekend after they beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

However, Disasi had no part in the game as an unused substitute. According to Football Insider, Chelsea aren’t going to offer him to clubs as Maresca is keen to keep his squad together after their impressive start to the season.

Disasi’s last game came in the Blues’ 5-1 win against Southampton last week where he started in place of first-team regular Wesley Fofana, who is currently out with a hamstring injury Disasi scored the opening goal of the game, powering home a header from Enzo Fernandez’s corner kick.

There had been previous reports of interest in the defender from Newcastle United, who were said to have identified Disasi as an alternative to Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Chelsea looking to add reinforcements at centre-back

Despite not looking to sell at the position, the Blues have been linked to signing new centre-backs in January as long-term replacements for Thiago Silva.

Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is a name that’s been linked over a move to Stamford Bridge after his stand-out performances for the Reds this season.

The Brazilian has appeared in all 15 of Forest’s Premier League matches so far this season, helping them to the third-best defensive record in the league. Furthermore, Benfica defender Tomas Araujo has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, but they face competition to sign him.

Premier League rivals Manchester United are also reportedly plotting a move for the promising 22-year-old, who has a release clause of £83m. Crystal Palace are also said to be keen on signing Araujo, especially considering the interest in Guehi, who could move away in the summer.

Carragher says Chelsea are ‘short’ at centre-back

Despite the Blues’ impressive 4-3 win against Spurs last weekend, pundit Jamie Carragher said he doesn’t think they are quite title contenders yet.

He compared Chelsea to the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool and argued that they should sign at least one more centre-back.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “I still look at the goalkeeper and two centre backs, I just think I can't see someone winning the Premier League without a real standout centre-back.”

"I think you'd say City winning it with Ederson and [Ruben] Dias, Liverpool with [Virgil] van Dijk and Alisson, going back to Petr Cech and John Terry. I still think Chelsea are a little bit short in those areas."
