Chelsea midfielder tipped for Championship move as medical is confirmed

Alex Matos has played two games for Chelsea this season, one in the Premier League and the other in the League Cup.

Chelsea have agreed a deal to loan teenager Alex Matos to Championship club Huddersfield Town for the remainder of the season, LondonWorld.com can confirm.

The 19-year-old moved to Chelsea from Norwich in the summer and he has impressed the technical handlers of the team, who have now decided that a move away will be the next step in his development. Matos arrived at Huddersfield this morning for medical, after which the deal will be announced.

If the move is completed in time, the teenager could make his debut on Sunday when Huddersfield travel to holders Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup.

Matos has been in and around the first team this season, playing his first Premier League game against Fulham. He also featured as the Blues beat Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup earlier in the campaign.

Blessed with great technique, Matos is naturally a midfielder but can also do a job in attack. He has settled in well since moving to Chelsea in the summer and is said to have impressed his teammates with his ability and attitude.

He will be following in the footsteps of Chelsea teammate Levi Colwill who spent the 2021/2022 season out on loan at Huddersfield Town before heading to Brighton the following season, where he had his big breakthrough.

Chelsea are expected to have a few more injured players returning to fitness so his place in the squad would be limited. A move to Huddersfield, who are currently 21st in the Championship table, makes sense to all involved. Manager Darren Moore gets a good player who is eager to impress and Matos should get minutes to continue developing.
