Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says he knows the club holds Mason Mount in high regard and are doing everything possible to keep him beyond this season.

The midfielder has been locked in contract negotiations with the owners all season and it has been reported that Manchester United who just beat Chelsea to qualify for the Champions League next season are seriously considering slapping in a bid for him as well as Arsenal and Liverpool.

Mount has been Chelsea’s Player of the Season twice in the last three years and even though injuries have affected his performance this campaign, he’s managed 3 goals in 24 league games.

LondonWorld sources say Mount is open to leaving his boyhood club if he does not get what he wants but Chelsea’s caretaker manager Frank Lampard who brought him back to the club after working together at Derby says the midfielder is cherished at the club but not ruling out the possibility of his departure.

He told reporters: “I know he’s held in high regard at the club, and I know the club are trying to do all they can to make him stay… but in the modern day players move on. It’s just a shame we’ve gotten into a situation where it looks like it’s maybe happening now.”

Chelsea will hope to find a solution to the Mount situation and build a new team having endured an incredibly challenging year that has them sat 12 in the Premier League and on track for their worst campaign since 1994.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of being named the new Chelsea boss and it will be interesting to see if he can get the team to bend their hold and give Mount a deal that will want him to stay at the club.
