Chelsea have reportedly made a late bid to sign RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele.

The highly-rated France international is closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain after the two clubs agreed a deal believed to be worth around £13million.

The 24-year-old right-back is said to have agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 giants but is yet to undergo a medical as he move closer to becoming PSG’s third signing of the summer.

FootMercato have reported Chelsea made a late bid to snatch Mukiele from under the noses of PSG and made an intriguing offer to RB Leipzig that would have seen Blues striker Timo Werner return to the Bundesliga club.

The German frontman has reportedly been offered to his former club to ‘facilitate’ a deal that would see Mukiele become Thomas Tuchel’s third summer signing.

The Blues boss has already added Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling to his squad and has discussed the need to further strengthen his ranks during the remainder of the transfer window.

Speaking in the aftermath of a 4-0 defeat in a pre-season friendly against Arsenal, Tuchel said: “The last week proves my point. I would absolutely prefer not to be right. I did everything to prove myself wrong but at the moment I feel that I was right.

“I look at the last season and parts of the game where we struggled, parts of the season where we struggled, and then we got sanctioned and players left us and some players are trying to leave us, and this is where it is.

“So we had an urgent appeal for quality players, a huge amount of quality players. We got two quality players but we are not competitive like this. Unfortunately you could see it today.”

The Blues retain an interest in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and have reportedly made contact with PSG over a possible deal for Presnel Kimpembe.

But the possible departure of long-serving defender Cesar Azpilicueta to Barcelona has pressed Tuchel into looking for further options on the right-hand side of his defence.

However, it seems the German boss may have to look elsewhere as Mukiele moves ever closer to a move to PSG.
