Chelsea are said to be in the running to land an Ajax star who has been dubbed ‘much better’ than Manchester United star Antony.

The Blues have already spent significantly this summer to add to their large spending bill over the last year or so, snapping up Nicolas Jackson, Angelo and Christopher Nkunku, who agreed to join last season. Amid a huge spending bill, Chelsea have largely concentrated on exits this summer, but they may still add to their already strong-looking squad.

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Chelsea are interested in snapping up Ajax sensation Mohammed Kudus before the end of the summer transfer window.

Sheth said on Sky Sports: “It’s not obviously in the same position, but Mohammed Kudus who, we’ve been talking about him in the last couple of windows, Chelsea retain an interest in him.

“He’s the Ajax attacking midfielder, no official bid yet but initial talks have taken place between both clubs. Ajax are probably looking at this summer’s transfer window as being the optimum time to get the best transfer fee for Mohammed Kudus.”

Kudus was Ajax’s star man last season, scoring 11 and assisting four from out wide, and Ajax legend believes he is actually ‘much better’ than Antony, the winger United signed from the Amsterdam club for a reported £85m last summer.

“I find Mohammed Kudus a much better football player than Antony,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport earlier this year.

“Antony has his skills, but he is confused with the things he is trying to do! Kudus has much better technique and he knows what he is doing. Antony may be faster, but Kudus is smarter and more technical.

“He is much more of a footballer, you can place him anywhere on the pitch, an all-rounder for the team. In fact, I like him much better than Antony. He’s more fun to watch play.”
