The Blues have been struggling with a number of injuries in recent weeks, but their defensive woes didn’t prevent them from another victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Despite their injury list, Chelsea claimed their third win over Spurs in as many weeks.

Now that we are in the Premier League winter break, Chelsea will be hopeful some of their absentees can return to fill fitness before their FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle on February 5.

Andreas Christensen

Andreas Christensen tested positive for Covid-19 prior to their defeat to Manchester City earlier this month and has missed the three matches since.

Thomas Tuchel expected the defender to return to training this week and should be available for their next game.

Trevoh Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah has been absent with an ongoing hamstring issue that he picked up in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The defender returned to training last week and was an unused substitute against Spurs - meaning he should be fully fit after the winter break.

Reece James

Reece James limped off during Chelsea’s draw against Brighton last month after tearing his hamstring.

It was feared that the right-back would miss most of the season, however Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that James has returned to training and could be back earlier than expected.

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell underwent knee surgery earlier this season and is unlikely to return to the squad before the campaign concludes.

The left-back has been absent since the Blues’ 4-0 win over Juventus in November.

Edouard Mendy

Edouard Mendy has been at the Africa Cup of Nations and Chelsea have been without their first choice goalkeeper since their clash with Liverpool at the start of the month.

Senegal are due to take on Cape Verde in the AFCON round of 16 this afternoon.

Depending on how far Senegal progress in the competition, the 29-year-old could return as early as this week - or after next weekend’s final.

If Mendy’s national team do reach the final then he is likely to return to the squad for their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on February 19.
