Chelsea are reportedly reigniting their pursuit of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. The Blues were keen on signing him over the summer but he ended up staying put in the Bundesliga.

In this latest update by The Athletic, Graham Potter’s side are in a ‘good position’ to land him in January. However, there will no doubt by competition for his signature, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in luring him to London.

Gvardiol, 20, has impressed at the World Cup with Croatia over the past couple of weeks and is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He helped his country get out of their group and they are in Round of 16 action today against Japan as they eye futher progression in Qatar.

He remains on the books of Leipzig and has been a key player for the German outfit over the past couple of years. He has made 66 appearances in all competitions since his switch there in 2020 and played a key role in them winning the DFB-Pokal earlier this year.

The youngster rose up through the academy at Dynamo Zagreb and broke into their first-team before playing 52 games prior to his move to the Red Bull Arena. Leipzig will be desperate to keep him but Chelsea and Spurs are looking to pounce this winter, with the Blues reporting leading the race at the moment.
